Weekly Round Up 7/16/12

First and foremost, welcome to The Weekly Geek! If you're reading this, you're either a close friend of mine who feels bad and wants to support me, or you actually care about the stuff that I'll be posting here. If you're the latter, then yay! Every found yourself wondering, "Gosh, I wonder what awesome things are happening this week! If only where was a place to find a comprehensive list of all things nerd culture going on over the next few days." Well, look no further, fair citizen! Check back every week to find a compilation of some of this week's greatest hits (and a few potential misses).


Movies/TV

• The SyFy Channel's fan favorite show, Eureka, marks the end of its 5th and final season on July 16th at 9:00 PM. 
• Whether or not you like to admit to the existence of this train wreck, catch X-Men: The Last Stand on FX this weekend! Airing Friday, July 20th at 11:00 PM with an encore directly afterwards at 1:30 AM. Because clearly you'll have nothing better to do on a Friday night.
• I mean, I guess I should mention The Dark Knight Rises, but I feel like it's almost implied that everybody is going to see it. So yeah. July 20th. Just in case you didn't know.

Comics

• Even if you haven't been reading along these past few months, you know what's going on in the Marvel Universe: Avengers Vs. X-Men, and it's been a battle for the history books. This week, be sure to pick up AvX #8 Avengers, Academy #33, and Uncanny X-Men #18!
• Still trying to catch up on DC's New 52? Yeah, me neither. But for all of you loyal readers out there, check out the 11th issues of Batwoman, Birds of Prey, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Catwoman, Green Lantern Corps, Justice League, Legion of Superheroes, Nightwing, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman!

DVD Releases for July 17th

• Admit it, you still miss NBC's Heroes. So why not pick up Alphas: Season 1 on DVD and relive the glory days of ordinary people suddenly becoming extraordinary?
• Are superheroes not your thing? What about dystopian futures based around scientific advancements not beyond the realm of possibility? If so, pick up Sanctuary: Season 4!
• Rounding out the SyFy Channel's DVD releases this week is Eureka: Season 5, just one day after the show's epic series finale (at least I assume it's going to be epic). Relive the season you literally just watched and complete your collection!
